Companions

"You guys look like my dear old friends. They lived in the middle of a turbulent generation, yet they were strong enough to grab their own fate. They knew the way to go, the things to do, the enemy to defeat and the people to protect."

Unfortunately, we are told very little about the original dragoons. This is mostly because they died long ago and there is no surviving history about them other than legends. Luckily, a side quest lets you meet the four original dragoons that do not have a role in the game. It is obvious from Rose's interaction with all of them that they were her dear friends and she holds them in high regard. However it seems Rose does not think of the group or herself as heroes. While Rose must take responsibility for their mistake (breaking the crystal sphere), she does not blame them. She desires them to find peace in the afterlife. It is difficult to tell the relationships each had with one another due to the brief scenes however the group was likely tight knit as they relied on one another to help understand what is was to be a Dragoon.

Belzac

"Children... I will realize the freedom you wished, and the future I promised to you."

Belzac appeared in both the Dragon Campaign cinematic and in Vellweb. Likely half-human and half-Giganto, Belzac was recognized by the Golden Dragoon Spirit. A selfless man, he fought on behalf of the children who wished for freedom and a future as well as the children killed by the Winglies. He had amazing strength as evident moments before his death. He was able to hold a large slab of stone while impaled by a Super Virage's claw.

It is obvious from the two scenes he appeared in that Belzac was in love with Shirley, going as far as to act as the shield for her when she was attacked by the Super Virage. It is likely Shirley was one of the major reasons that Belzac joined the war. He cannot accept that he or Shirley has died and remains in this world because of it.

When Rose returned to Vellweb to set their souls free, Belzac was surprised to see Rose but seemed even more surprised to see what he though was Zieg. Belzac likely had great respect and friendship for the Dragoon leader. Rose reminded him of the truth of his death and Belzac was able to leave this world. It wasn't as sad as he imagined. Rose hoped he will be able to reunite with Shirley.

Belzac As mentioned, Belzac died however it was not from being impaled by a Super Virage. He was able to continue holding up a large slab of stone in spite of the mortal wound. It is likely his strength gave out or the Virage moved. Both him and Shirley would have been crushed as a result.

Damia

Yes, Rose and the other Dragoons are all kind to me. But…. Why make such a sad face?"

Damia Damia only appeared in Vellweb so her manner of death was unknown. However since the other dragoons that died transformed and appeared in Vellweb transformed, it's likely Damia died in battle. She was the child of a human and a mermaid and this gave her a special power that allowed her to be recognized by the Blue-Sea Dragoon Spirit at the age of 15.

A lonely girl, she was bullied in the past and became very attached to her Dragoon companions. This loneliness prevents her from moving on and she remains in this world. Damia was likely waiting in her room for the other dragoons to visit her, alone with her sorrow.

When Rose returned to Vellweb, Damia was pleased to see Rose and did not want her to leave again. It is possible Rose was with Damia when she died or left just before Damia's death. Rose fought Damia's spirit in order to send it to the next world. Comforting her, Rose told her that she won't be lonely anymore because everyone is waiting for her. Rose would also be there when the time came.

Kanzas

"These are mementos to remind me of the taste of blood dripping from my fist! There is no reason to be criticized by you!"

Kanzas appears in both the Dragon Campaign cinematic and in Vellweb as the Violet Dragoon. From the scene in Vellweb, Kanzas is shown to be a violent man who enjoys killing, even joining the Dragon Campaign in order to kill. He would create mementos to represent his victims and his room was filled with these doll representations and blood. There was also three small ones in front of a statue of the Divine Tree. It is possible these three were honoured by Kanzas for some reason. Kanzas' room was hated by Rose and possibly the other Dragoons and he probably did not have many visitors. The dialogue exchanged by these two implies anamosity between them.

However killing was not Kanzas' only reason for fighting against the Winglies. Shirley persuaded him to join their cause, something that has surprised Rose. Kanzas explains that he saw nobleness in Shirley which is something he could never have. By becoming a Dragoon and fighting alongside her, he was able to go some bright place he could not have by his own. Even after death, he was still looking for the 'bright place'.

It is also possible that Kanzas was not a murderer. At the very least he might have honoured those he killed, even if it appeared to just be a kill tally to others. It's also possible that Kanzas did not enjoy killing, it just happened to be the only thing he felt he was good at. The mementos he created possibly reminded him of what an awful person he was and that he could never be someone like Shirley. Kanzas becomes enraged when Rose criticizes his dolls and claims he clings to this world because he desires to kill more people and attacks her. He accepts his defeat and Rose wishes from him to find his bright place, after learning he didn't fight alongside her just to kill.

Kanzas Kanzas died in a kamikaze attack against a Super Virage attacking them. Using his power he blew himself up, causing a chain reaction that destroyed the surrounding area. His last words seem to hint that Kanzas was already mortally wounded as there was no other reason to tell the Virage he was "taking you with me." While there was dislike between Rose and Kanzas, she remained behind and had to be pulled away from the explosion by Zieg. Kanzas' death did not bring Rose any joy.

Shirley

"You are... Rose, aren't you...? Oh... I understand. You have been on your sad journey since then."

Shirley Shirley is far more prominant in the game that the other Dragoons with the exception of Zieg and Rose. She is encounted twice thoughout the game as well as appearing in the Dragon Campaign cinematic as the White-Silver Dragoon. She is first encountered in Shirley Shrine in Serdio. The game does not reveal if the shrine was named after Shirley or its age. However a dragon symbol Rose identifies as belonging to Shirley is carved in the entrance to the shrine. It also appears deeper in the shrine and is capable of healing the party. It is likely the shrine was named for Shirley after it was known to be haunted by a ghost.

Defeating Drake summons the spirit of Shirley. Shirley recognizes Rose as her friend but she does not reveal how she knows Rose. Shirley also hints that she is aware Rose is the Black Monster and that their actions in Kadessa brought the Moon Child. Both comment on the sad journey each has endured for many years. Shirley tells Rose that Dart will be the one to reawaken her old self and lead her to the future. It is unknown if Shirley knew what that future was. Rose likely took this comment to heart as it came from a trusted old friend. She likely continued to follow Dart as he was not only causing the Dragoons to gather again but might bring an end to the cycle.

Even though the words between these two are brief, it's obvious the two are old friends who care about one another. Rose doesn't know Shirley left to Vellweb after she gave Dart the White-Silver Dragoon Spirit. Instead she was glad Shirley had left this world and assended to Heaven. Unfortunatly Shirley still had a reason to remain in Endiness, this reason being the troubled souls of her companions.

Rose was surprised to find Shirley at the Dragoon Towers in Vellweb. She is also surprised that Death City Mayfil was still active and calling for the spirits of her friends. However Rose is able to seperate her desire to help her friends with the need to meet with the man calling himself Diaz. Shirley also wanted Rose to meet with Diaz, possibly knowing that he was Zieg. Shirley wanted to help Rose as much as she wanted to help her other friends. Rose appeciates Shirley's actions and is happy when Shirley is able to leave the fate of their companions with her and assend to Heaven to wait for the souls of the Dragoons. In turn, Rose leaves their fates with Dart. Rose is the past while Dart is the future.

Shirley Shirley died in spite of Belzac giving his life to save her. As the Super Virage released its attack, Shirley shot an arrow at the same time. The city is seen falling apart afterwards and its safe to assume Belzac's strength gave out or the Virage moved and Shirley was crushed under the slab with him.

Syuveil

" I can come back… again. To the place with light…. To the place with warm lives."

Syuveil Syuveil only appears in Vellweb so his manner of death is unknown. However since the other dragoons that died transformed and appear in Vellweb transformed, it's likely Syuveil died in battle. Syuveil likely did not die in the attack on Death City Mayfil as he is aware of its purpose and actions. Knowing that the Winglies had manipulated souls between the Death Capital and Life Capital, he feared the world of nothing he saw at Mayfil. This caused the Wind Dragoon to remain on Endiness.

Rose notes that Syuveil was a scholer who studied life and death and the irony that he could not completely die. Unlike the others, Rose begins a normal conversation with Syuveil, asking about his well being and his studies. Syuveil is quite aware he is dead and asks Rose what he should do. It is likely these two were good friends, Syuveil seems to value Rose's opinion enough to ask her if he should go to hell or not.

Rose tells Syuveil that in the eastern country, they believe, “Life does not come from anywhere or go anywhere. It just goes around with all other lives. It is part of a great wheel.” Syuveil finds this very comforting and is able to move on knowing that there's a chance he will be reincarnated and return to life one day. Rose seems to understand Syuveil enough to know he is best dealt with knowledge rather than sympathic words. Rose respected this and responsed to his soul in such a manner. She doesn't tell him to where to go but rather gives him a choice to decide. They must have been good friends for Rose to have such understanding of him.

Emperor Diaz

"What we desire is freedom!! Or give us death!! "

Emperor Diaz was a god amongst men. With the title Holy Imperial Gloriano, Diaz lead the humans to victory against the Winglies and Melbu Frahma. Declaring war at Fort Magrad, he already commanded 7 Dragon Knights and tens of thousands of soliders. Soon after he constructed Captial Vellweb. With Dragons on his side, Diaz was able to fight a much stronger opponent. Shooting down Flanvel with a giant arrow, he proceeded to destroy the Wingly cities and ultimatly Royal Capital Kadessa itself.

Diaz died soon after the Dragon Campaign and given the state of Vellweb, it is likely Gloriano died with him. Rose seems reluctant to call him a human hero. It's possible that he became corrupt near the end of his life or perhaps he never saw himself as a hero. It's possible Diaz was humble about his role. Even though he claimed to be the one to bring light to the human's future and to be the one to past judgement on the Winglies, this could have all been rhetoric to motivate his Liberation Army. There is no doubt the charismatic man had the greatest respect of the Dragoons and they all fought for his vision of a world free from Wingly oppresion.

Charle Frahma

"Oh Rosie darling! I have been waiting for you! "

Charle Charle was the sister of Melbu Frahma and disagreed with the majority of his views. They had a vibrant sibling rivaly. Melbu seperated the Virage Embryo from its body and created the Crystal Sphere to draw power. In return Charle created the Signet Spheres in key locations to reduce the power to the Sphere and to seal away the Embyro's body. Melbu then turned around and created the Divine Moon Objects to destroy the Signet Spheres if he wanted to. With such actions against a dictator, Charle was either too powerful to assasinate or Melbu still loved his older sister as he apparently never took action against her.

When Rose takes Dart and the others to Ulara to get information, Charle first asks about Rose's well being. It is obvious Rose means a lot to Charle and she is greatly concerned recent events are taking their told on her. Charle even goes as far as acting overly happy and pleasant so Rose won't be depressed. Rose's reaction seems to be more over embarrassment than actual hostility. Rose even goes as far as to apologize for not killing Shana. Rose must have great respect for the woman as she is not the type to apologize. Both Charle and Rose note that Zieg is not acting like himself. Apparently scheming was not a strong point of his. Zieg was more to the point and direct. This would imply that Charle knew Rose and Zieg during the Dragon Campaign and possibly assisted the Dragoons in their battle against Melbu Frahma.

Charle is the one who taught Rose about the God of Destruction and created Rose's choker that gives her immortality. However it is not obvious if Charle asked Rose to become the Black Monster or if Rose offered to do it herself. Charle, Miata and the rest of the Winglies respect Rose greatly for her deeds and the whole city has a send-off for the great heroes. Even after Rose tells them they shouldn't have, Charle and Miata remind Rose she has saved the world over 100 times and that she's been doing an amazing task even after being called a monster. Both want Rose and the others to return safely.

Charle is an important friend to Rose, one of the few who can truly understand what she has been though.
